Trade Show Announcement — Press Release

1958 Studebaker By Anton’s Hot Rods Set for  SEMA 2016

Custom builds will be featured in the Valspar Automotive Booth No. 10851

Minneapolis, Minn., Sept. 16, 2016 — Valspar Automotive, a leading provider of auto refinishing products that offer best-in-class color matching performance, announces Anton’s Hot Rods of Hiram, Ohio, will present their custom built 1958 Studebaker Drag Racer as a Valspar Refinish Featured Builds at the SEMA Show held Nov. 1-4, 2016, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Both vehicles will be featured in the Valspar booth, 10851, in North and Westgate Hall.

Anton’s Hot Rods is known for bringing new life into old cars, and the Studebaker is no different, said Tony Lanesky, founder and owner of Anton’s Hot Rods. The rebuild features a newly fabricated chassis and body modifications.

Lanesky purchased the Studebaker from a friend how had taken ill and was unable to finish the rebuild himself. The Studebaker’s striking finish features a tribute to World War II veterans. Lanesky said he built and decorated the car to show respect for the veterans and included historical references to the heroic pilots and their crews who protected the skies during the war. The Studebaker resembles at B-50 Superfortress, one of the last piston-powered bombers build during that era.

Because this vehicle is a tribute to American veterans, Lanesky chose an American paint brand to finish the build. Starting from the ground up, the Detroit-born Matrix System Automotive Finishes has a long-established history of providing high-performance refinishing products through innovation, research and customer service.

Matrix was the first automotive paint manufacturer to bring a complete line of advanced technology paint to the country and now offers more that 98,000 colors with exact formulas.

Lanesky’s olive-green Studebaker features Matrix under-and topcoats, and was built with US Chemical Body Fillers.

Lanesky started working with cars 19 years ago, and spent the majority of that time specializing in racing engines, he said. As time progressed, he found his place in the repair and refinish business where, he said, everything just took off. “We put out a lot of cars, but we don’t have a giant staff. Just a few employees — and my wife.”

Lanesky has never been to SEMA, he said, so bringing two vehicles to the biggest trade show of the year had him a bit tense. “We are going there to show what our shop can do, so I’ve been a little of a mess. But using these products has made the process easier. Valspar clears flow nice and have some body to them. I’m impressed with these finishes and really happy I used them for these SEMA builds.”

To be considered as a “featured build” at the SEMA Shop, a vehicle must be completed exclusively with Valspar Refinish products. These products include deBeer,  Matrix, LIC, Valspar Refinish, House of Kolor, Pro Spray, and US Chemical and Plastics.

Other Featured Vehicles Include:

  • 1967 Ford Mustang
  • 1978 Pontiac Trans Am
  • 1958 Plymouth Belvedere
  • 1947 Ford Pickup
